Yoga Now Malaysia - Langkawi Yoga Retreat

video

Friday, October 2, 2009

Stretch your body, stretch your mind
Relax your body, relax your mind

Come for yoga classes and yoga retreats in Langkawi.

We teach traditional Hatha Yoga - a combination of Asanas (postures) and Pranayama (breathing techniques) and relaxation, that has given benefit to millions of practitioners over thousands of years.
Our classes

We believe in teaching the basic essentials that have long since proved their usefulness to humanity. Whether on yoga retreats or in regular classes we teach small groups of between 5 and 12 people in order to assure that you receive the maximum of personal attention that just isn't possible in large groups.

Make the most of your stay in Langkawi and join us for either morning or afternoon yoga classes. A two hour class will leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed and energized.
Yoga is about residing in the present, living each moment to the fullest and getting more out of life NOW. The concentration and awareness that yoga exercises require, helps to train our minds to bring more awareness into our daily lives.

You may be new to Yoga, but Yoga is nothing new. Yoga's increasing popularity today shows that it is still relevant, bringing ancient wisdom to enrich our modern lives. There are many people teaching many so called different styles of Yoga nowadays - it seems that we are always craving for something new, looking for something different. We didn't invent yoga and we don't seek to modernise or re-invent it. Yoga has stood the test of time - if it's not broken then why fix it?. If Yoga had a flavour, ours would be good old fashioned plain vanilla.

We teach daily yoga classes every morning and afternoon in a beautiful traditional wooden Malay house ten peaceful minutes walk from the beach in Pantai Cenang.

Langkawi

The beautiful tropical paradise island of Langkawi is the perfect place to practice yoga. The warm climate, the sea air, the slow pace of life and the tranquil natural environment make Langkawi the perfect yoga destination.
Langkawi is the largest island in an archipeligo of 99 islands set in the Andaman Sea off the western coast of the border between Malaysia and Thailand.
Langkawi Island is classed as a World Geopark by UNESCO for its natural beauty and geological uniqueness. Langkawi boasts long sandy beaches, tropical rainforests, mangrove swamps, caves, waterfalls, mountains...

Getting to Langkawi

By Air
Langkawi can be reached by many daily flights from around the region, as well as international charter flights.

By Sea
Ferries from Malaysia leave from Kuala Perlis (1 hour 15 minutes), Kuala Kedah (1 hour 45 minutes) or Penang (2 hours 45 minutes).
There is also a regular ferry service to Medan in Indonesia.
Visitors travelling from Thailand can arrive in Langkawi by sea from either Satun (1 hour 15 minutes) or Koh Lipe (1 hour 30 minutes). Koh Lipe can be used as a hub for island hopping onwards in Thailand with regular ferries to Koh Tarutao, Trang, Satun, Koh Lanta, Koh Bulon, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket.
Visitors who wish to extend their stay in Thailand often visit Langkawi for a few days before re-entering Thailand. If you plan on doing this, why not take the time to join us for some yoga classes or a yoga retreat.

Climate in Langkawi

Langkawi is situated just 6 degrees north of the equator and has a humid maritime tropical climate that varies little throughout the year. Monsoon season used to be between June and October, but nowadays weather patterns are a little less predictable.
Even during monsoon season it may only rain for half an hour or so, before the skies become clear again, so if you visit during that period it is unlikely that you will spend your holidays stuck inside all day watching the rain fall. You are much more likely to need sunglasses, a sun hat and sunblock than an umbrella. Average temperatures are between 25 and 35 celcius. Mosquitos are present, though malaria isn't really an issue.

Accommodation

There is a vast range of accommodation within easy walking to our studio. Pantai Cenang has many hotels, guest houses and chalets to suit all budgets.
Among the more modest and reasonably priced guesthouses situated close by we recommend Gecko or Rainbow. If you are looking for top of the range splurge then you might like the Pelangi Beach Resort Hotel or Casa del Mar.

Testimonials

Marco & Lydia - Hong Kong

Upon my return to HK, my friends asked me how was our yoga retreat in Langkawi ? It is so strange an expressive person like me found myself stuck with words. I always said it was beyond words and dumped some photo and video in our company server so our colleagues can have a look. Their response? Amazed and jealous.
I'm still overwhelmed with the trip, your passion and hospitality, scenary, morning smell at Sunset Valley, waterfalls: sounds from the waterfall, the walk, food, me & marco hiding in the water curtain, and Meng Foong's moves...and the cable car ride? I'm so glad we went up - the air was so fresh!
I was expecting it is a yoga retreat so there will be yoga classes and meditation, get up early and eat healthy, getaway from our busy city life. It turned out to be all of the above and much much more, in a spritual way. I forgot about "myself" hiding in the waterfalls, nothing matters anymore, sound of the universe is right there; of course the snacks did some tricks to recharge my body after I cleansed my soul. You two have taken good care of us, good planning of activities. Waking up every morning seeing the moon still in the sky, birds hoovering on the paddy fields... these are beyond words. Now I close my eyes, I can see them vividly, with colours. Waterfalls, it made a huge difference, make sure you include it everytime, I'm sure you won't be bored by them.
You people are fun to play with and easy to learn with. I'm still amazed that Marco did kakasana and headstand like he's been practising for a while, and I'm the one who goes to yoga class every Sunday!
Seriously I'm thankful to you guys for bringing such a memorable trip to me. And I'm happy Marco has made a lifetime change - decided to do yoga to correct his spinal posture, thanks Marc & Meng Foong!
I shall not forget I'm a learner everyday, wish you two enjoy every moment in life

Pete and Michelle Meyers

My wife, Michelle and I were traveling in Malaysia and attended Marc and Meng Foongʼs Cameron Highlands Yoga Retreat. The experience was nothing short of outstanding. Meng Foong and Marc are both extremely well versed yoga teachers with a wonderful mix of compassion, flexibility, humor, passion and patience. The retreatʼs format allows for plentiful practice, relaxation and exploration of the beautiful countryside. We would both enthusiastically recommend this retreat to anyone, regardless of your yoga experience, looking to deepen their yoga practice in a focused and supportive environment.

Shinny Wong and Alice Ooi – Yoga Teachers

We are very happy to have met both of you. We really learned a lot about yoga during our four days three nights yoga retreat, not just about asana but also the reflective and philosophical side of yoga. Yoga is not just about being healthy and strong, but teaches people how to relax and find our paths in life and gives us more courage to face the challenges of life. Thank you both very much and hopefully we will meet again. We will always remember your teaching in our hearts.
Intensive Yoga Retreat

This retreat is more intensive with longer practice periods for Asana, Pranayama and Meditation and includes additional strength and flexibility workshops.
